✦
“When the rooster crows, there is no night; beyond Debre Tabor, there is no winter.”
This proverb uses two natural occurrences to illustrate a certainty. Just as the rooster's crow signifies the end of night, the passing of Debre Tabor (August 19th in the Gregorian calendar, or August 13th in the Ethiopian calendar) is believed to mark the end of the heavy rainy season (winter in Ethiopia). It generally implies that once a certain event occurs, an inevitable outcome or change follows.
