ቅርብ ያለ ጠበል ልጥ ይነከርበታል

This proverb indicates that something readily available or nearby can easily be undervalued or ignored. Even though 'holy water' (tebel) is sacred, because it's nearby, people might use it disrespectfully by dipping a mere piece of cloth in it, not giving it its proper reverence. This implies that people might not give due respect and attention to things (people, resources, opportunities) that are close to them.

ይህ ምሳሌ በቅርብ ያለ ነገር በቀላሉ ዋጋ ሊነፈግ ወይም ችላ ሊባል እንደሚችል ያሳያል። 'ጠበል' ቅዱስ ውሃ ቢሆንም፣ በቅርብ ስለሆነ ሰዎች በንቀት በጨርቅ ጠልቀው እንደሚጠቀሙበት፣ ትክክለኛውን የአክብሮት ቦታ እንደማይሰጡት ያሳያል። ይህ ማለት ሰዎች ለራሳቸው ቅርብ ለሆነ ነገር (ሰው፣ ሀብት፣ ዕድል) የተገባውን ክብርና ትኩረት ላይሰጡ ይችላሉ።
