This proverb is used to describe something utterly nonsensical, futile, or impossible. Flatulence, being intangible, cannot be physically picked up with tongs or any other tool. Therefore, the saying is used satirically to mock someone who is attempting or talking about doing something absurd, illogical, or unattainable.

ይህ ብሂል ትርጉም የለሽ እና ፈጽሞ ሊሆን የማይችል ነገርን ለማመልከት ያገለግላል። ፈስ በእጅ ወይም በወረንጦ ሊለቀም አይችልም። ስለዚህ አንድ ሰው የማይረባ ወይም ሊደረስበት የማይችል ነገርን ለማድረግ ሲሞክር ወይም ሲናገር ለማላገጥ ያገለግላል።
