This proverb describes an individual who is incapable, weak, or has significant shortcomings, and therefore cannot help themselves, let alone others. Just as a wooden pot is unsuitable for cooking over fire and gets damaged itself, a person with inherent flaws or a lack of capability cannot provide assistance or solutions to others. It implies that one must first be able to manage their own affairs or be competent themselves before they can effectively support or 'save' others.

ይህ ብሂል የራሱን ችግር መፍታት የማይችል ወይም እራሱ ብቁ ያልሆነ ሰው ሌሎችንም መርዳት እንደማይችል ለማመልከት ያገለግላል። ልክ የእንጨት ምንቸት ለእሳት የማትሆን እንደሆነችው፣ የራሱ ጉድለት ያለበት ወይም አቅም የሌለው ሰው ለሌሎችም እርዳታ መስጠት አይችልም ማለት ነው።
