Meaning

This proverb illustrates the act of offering an excessively large or disproportionate solution/vow for a minor problem. Just as one might vow to sacrifice an expensive ox for a sick chicken, it points to the absurdity of making a huge commitment or offering a grand solution for something trivial, often used ironically or hyperbolically.
