ቀድሞ የሸተውን ወፍ ይበላዋል ቀድሞ የሚናገረውን ሰው ይጠላዋል
✦
“The bird eats what ripened first; people hate one who speaks first (or too much).”
Meaning
This proverb has two cautionary parts: early gains or easily accessible things are quickly consumed ('the bird eats what ripened first'), and speaking out prematurely or excessively can lead to being disliked or criticized by others ('people hate one who speaks first'). It advises caution and discernment in both actions and speech.
