“Oh ox, oh ox, foolish ox! You saw the grass but didn't see the cliff; did you fall into the deep cliff on us?”
Meaning
This proverb is a lament for someone who, blinded by immediate gratification or short-term benefits (the grass), fails to foresee or ignore grave dangers (the cliff) and consequently brings disaster upon themselves and others. It criticizes foolish, short-sighted decisions that lead to ruin and negatively impact those associated with the decision-maker. It expresses frustration and sorrow over avoidable catastrophic mistakes.
