“The mother of the Abay (Blue Nile) River got thirsty for water.”
Meaning
This proverb is used when someone, capable of fulfilling others' needs, finds themselves unable to meet their own, or when what one possesses cannot benefit oneself. It's a paradoxical and sad situation that the Abay River, a great source of water, has its mother (or source region) become thirsty for water.
