Meaning

This proverb expresses the deep frustration and resentment when one has made a great sacrifice, endured much hardship, and saved or helped another person, only for that person to forget the favor and the sacrifice, and even worse, to act with arrogance or boastfulness towards the benefactor. ይህ ምሳሌ አንድ ሰው ለሌላው ትልቅ መስዋዕትነት ከፍሎ፣ ብዙ ችግርና መከራ ተቀብሎለት ከረዳው በኋላ፣ ያ የተረዳው ሰው ያደረገለትን መስዋዕትነትና ውለታ ረስቶበት፣ ይባስ ብሎም በእሱ ላይ የትዕቢትና የጉራ ድርጊት ሲፈጽምበት ያለውን ቅሬታ፣ ምሬትና ቁጭት የሚገልጽ ነው። 'ባለ ዘጠኝ ልብስ' ማለት ሀብታም፣ የተከበረ ወይም በዚያን ጊዜ ንጉሣዊ ቤተሰብን የሚያመለክት ሲሆን፣ ይህ ሰው ምንም ሳያደርግ በሌሎች ልፋትና መስዋዕትነት የተነሳ የደረሰበትን ክብር ወይም ምቾት ሳይገባው እየተጠቀመበትና ትዕቢት ሲያደርግበት ማየት የሚያሳየውን ስሜት ይገልጻል።
