All Proverbs

✦

“Don't laugh for a child; don't run for a dog.”

Meaning

This proverb advises against over-indulgence, spoiling others, or expending unnecessary effort for those who should be self-sufficient or are capable of doing things themselves. It implies that doing too much for someone, like a child, can hinder their independence, and putting excessive effort into something like running for a dog is pointless.
