እኔን የወደደ ካንጀት ልጄን የወደደ ካንገት

✦

“He who loves me, loves from the stomach; he who loves my child, loves from the neck.”

Meaning

This proverb distinguishes between genuine, deep affection and superficial or feigned love. 'Loving from the stomach' signifies sincere, heartfelt affection for the person directly, while 'loving from the neck' implies a shallower, possibly opportunistic or less genuine display of affection, perhaps directed at a child to please the parent rather than true care for the child.
