ዱባና ቅል አበቃቀሉ ለየቅል

Meaning

This proverb is often used to describe two very similar-looking things (gourd and squash are both cucurbits) that, despite their superficial resemblance, have different origins, qualities, or growing habits. It means that even if things appear similar on the surface, their true nature, background, or character can be quite distinct. It cautions against judging solely by appearance.

ይህ ብሂል ብዙውን ጊዜ ተመሳሳይ የሚመስሉ ሁለት ነገሮችን (ዱባ እና ቅል ሁለቱም ከኩኩርቢታ ቤተሰብ ናቸው) ለመግለጽ ይጠቅማል፣ እነሱም በመልክ ተመሳሳይ ቢሆኑም የተለያዩ ምንጮች፣ ባሕርያት ወይም የአበቃቀል ሁኔታዎች አሏቸው። ነገሮች በመልክ ተመሳሳይ ቢሆኑም እንኳ እውነተኛ ባህሪያቸው፣ አመጣጣቸው ወይም ባሕሪያቸው በጣም የተለየ ሊሆን ይችላል ማለት ነው። በመልክ ብቻ ከመፍረድ ያስጠነቅቃል።
