Meaning

This proverb humorously yet pointedly illustrates extreme gluttony and a profound level of self-centered, short-sighted desire. It depicts a glutton whose sole immediate wish is for enough life to simply finish swallowing their current mouthful of food, completely disregarding any broader future or purpose. It highlights an overwhelming focus on instant gratification and present indulgence, to the exclusion of all else.
