Meaning

This proverb is ironic. It describes someone who goes to extreme lengths to avoid one thing (like marriage and childbirth by becoming a monk/nun) only to find themselves entangled in struggles (ይልከሰከሱ - fuss/struggle/toil) that prevent them from achieving their original desired outcome (righteousness or peace). It suggests that sometimes efforts to avoid one responsibility lead to other, perhaps worse, complications or failures to achieve true virtue.
