Meaning

This proverb highlights deceptive appearances. Someone might seem prosperous or well-off in public or in certain aspects of their life (above the waist), but their true condition or overall life situation (below the waist) is one of lack, struggle, or poverty. It means that outward impressions can be misleading about one's genuine state.

ይህ አባባል መልካቸው ወይም የተወሰነ ሁኔታቸው ጥሩ ሆኖ ሲታይ፣ ነገር ግን እውነተኛ ሁኔታቸው ወይም አጠቃላይ ህይወታቸው ችግር ያለበት ወይም የጎደለ መሆኑን ያመለክታል። ውጫዊ ገጽታው የተመቻቸ ቢመስልም እውነታው ግን የድህነትና የችግር መሆኑን ያሳያል።
