Meaning

This proverb starkly contrasts the foresight and long-term perspective of a wise person with the shortsightedness and immediate gratification sought by a fool. A wise person laments the destruction of a valuable resource, understanding the long-term loss, while a fool only sees the immediate, temporary benefit of licking the fallen salt, oblivious to the greater detriment.

ይህ ምሳሌ ብልህ ሰው የረዥም ጊዜውን ጉዳትና ኪሳራ ሲያይ ሞኝ ሰው ግን አሁን ባለው ጊዜያዊ ጥቅም እንደሚደሰት ያሳያል። የጨው ገደል መናዱ የረዥም ጊዜ ሀብት መጥፋት ሲሆን፣ ሞኝ ሰው ግን ይህን ሳይረዳ ወድቆ ያለውን ጨው በመላስ አሁን ባለው ደስታ ብቻ ይጠመዳል።
