This proverb signifies that a guest is initially treated with great honor and care (like gold), but after a while, that honor diminishes (like silver), and eventually, they might become a burden or insignificant (like iron).

ይህ ብሂል እንግዳ ሲመጣ በታላቅ ክብርና እንክብካቤ እንደሚስተናገድ (እንደ ወርቅ)፣ ከቆየ በኋላ ግን ያ ክብር እየቀነሰ እንደሚሄድ (እንደ ብር)፣ በመጨረሻም ሸክም ወይም ትርጉም የለሽ እንደሚሆን (እንደ ብረት) ያመለክታል።
