Meaning

This proverb describes the miserable and insecure life of a thief. 'Ash' symbolizes a dirty, uncomfortable, and temporary resting place, signifying a life without peace or comfort. 'Rope' represents the constant fear of capture and punishment. It suggests that a life of crime inevitably leads to hardship, confinement, and a lack of true peace.
