This proverb suggests that it is better to endure a period of significant, even rigorous, hardship (like fasting on Good Friday, which is a very strict fast) with peace of mind and purpose, rather than to experience a superficial or problematic abundance that leads to restlessness, discomfort, or moral compromise. ይህ ብሂል ለአጭር ጊዜ የሚቆይ ከፍተኛ ችግርን (እንደ ስቅለት ጾም) በሰላምና በዓላማ መቋቋም፣ ከውጫዊ ብልጽግና ወይም ችግር ካለው የተትረፈረፈ ነገር ይልቅ እንደሚመረጥ ያሳያል፤ እንዲህ ያለው ብልጽግና እረፍት የለሽነትን፣ ምቾት ማጣትን ወይም የሞራል ውድቀትን ሊያስከትል ይችላል። በሥርዓት ከሚገኝ ስቃይ ይልቅ ችግር ያለበት ምቾትን ይመርጣል።
