Meaning

This proverb illustrates that people will use their specific area of expertise, knowledge, or background to support their arguments. Just as a priest's advocate would naturally cite from religious texts like the Psalms, it implies that individuals will draw upon their professional or personal domain to make their case, sometimes to the exclusion of other relevant points.
