በቅሎ ግዙ ግዙ አሞሌ ላያግዙ

✦

“They keep saying 'buy a mule,' but not to carry amole (salt bars).”

Meaning

This proverb refers to someone who acquires something valuable or useful but then fails to use it for its intended purpose, or uses it only for trivial matters. A mule is bought to carry heavy loads, and 'amole' (salt bars) were historically a valuable commodity used as currency. The proverb criticizes the act of spending money on a valuable asset (like a mule) but then not utilizing it for its primary, important function (like carrying amole), thus implying a waste of resources or poor judgment. It signifies acquiring a tool or resource but not making proper or full use of it.
