ባል ሳይኖር ውሽማ

Meaning

This proverb points out a logical contradiction: one cannot have a 'wushima' (a secret lover) if there is no husband in the first place, as 'wushima' implies an illicit relationship outside of marriage. Therefore, it means attempting to have a secondary or superfluous thing when the primary or fundamental thing is missing, rendering the secondary thing pointless or out of place. It emphasizes the need to address the fundamentals first.

ይህ ብሂል ባል የሌላት ሴት 'ውሽማ' (secret lover) አላት ማለት አይቻልም፤ ውሽማ የሚባለው ባል እያለ የሚደረግ ግንኙነት ነው። ስለዚህ፣ አንድ አስፈላጊ ወይም መሠረታዊ ነገር ሳይኖር የሚመጣ ሁለተኛ ወይም ተጨማሪ ነገር ምንም ፋይዳ እንደሌለው ያሳያል። ለዋናው ነገር ቅድሚያ መሰጠት አለበት።
