ይህ ምሳሌ እያንዳንዱ ነገር የራሱ የሆነ የተለየ ዓላማ ወይም ጥቅም እንዳለው ያጎላል። ተራራ ለመመልከት ወይም በጥልቀት ለማሰብ ('ጥናት') ምቹ ሲሆን ውሃ ደግሞ ጥማትን ለማርካት አስፈላጊ ነው። ይህም ነገሮችን በተፈጥሮአዊ ተግባራቸው እና ዓላማቸው መሰረት መጠቀም እንዳለበት እና ሀብቶች ለተወሰኑ ፍላጎቶች እንደሚገኙ ያመለክታል።
