እናቱ የሞተችበትና ገበያ የሄደችበት እኩል አለቀሱ

✦

“The one whose mother died and the one who went to the market cried equally.”

Meaning

This proverb suggests that while the causes of sorrow or disappointment may vastly differ in severity, people's emotional reactions or expressions of grief can sometimes appear similar. It illustrates that a person mourning a profound loss (death of a mother) and another experiencing a minor setback (unsuccessful market trip) might both cry, indicating that individual emotional responses don't always directly correlate with the objective magnitude of the event. It speaks to the relativity of perceived suffering.
