ወይኖ አረሰው ወይኖ ጎረሰው
“Woyno plowed it, and Woyno fed him.”
Meaning
This proverb describes a situation where one person (referred to as Woyno) undertakes difficult labor, such as plowing the land, while another person (also metaphorically referred to as Woyno, representing the beneficiary) effortlessly consumes or benefits from the fruits of that labor. It highlights an imbalance between strenuous effort and passive reception of benefits. Although the literal translation implies that 'Woyno plowed, and Woyno fed someone else,' idiomatically, it conveys the idea that the one who plows is Woyno, but the one who ultimately benefits or is 'spoon-fed' from the results is someone else, often without having contributed to the initial effort.
