ቻቻታ የለመደ ሰው አባይ ዳር ቅበሩኝ ይላል
“A person accustomed to noise says, 'Bury me by the bank of the Abay (Blue Nile).' ”
Meaning
This proverb illustrates the deep attachment a person has to their familiar environment or habits. Even if 'chachata' (noise/clamor) is often perceived negatively, a person accustomed to it considers it an integral part of their life. The phrase 'Bury me by the Abay' (Blue Nile) signifies this deep longing to remain connected to that familiar stimulation, even in death. The Abay River is known for its powerful flow and the associated sounds, making it a symbolic choice for someone who loves clamor. It highlights the strength of habit and how deeply one can be connected to their accustomed surroundings or lifestyle, even if it seems chaotic to others.
