Meaning

This proverb means that some pains or discomforts, whether emotional or physical, intensify and become more unbearable over time. The grief of a mother's death is a profound and lasting sorrow, while sitting on a cold stone seat might initially be tolerable but becomes increasingly uncomfortable and painful with prolonged exposure.
